Jose Cariño Garcia was born in the Philippines in 1909. A founding member of the Miami Filipino Club, he was active in the local American Legion Bataan Post 151, a veteran’s service organization. Bataan is a province in Philippines.
Garcia was married to Virginia Lee upon her graduation from Miami Senior High in 1947. They were charter members of the United Filipino American Association which worked closely with the Bataan post to bring awareness of Filipino culture in South Florida.
