Herstory Committee was born out of the organization Herstory of Florida, Inc., a project initiated by Ruth Braddock and incorporated in 1974 to emphasize women’s role in the history and development of Miami-Dade County. The organization published the bookJulia’s Daughters: Women in Dade’s History, 1513-1975 in 1980 and a series of programs televised on WPBT from 1975 to 1978.

The organization was revived in 2000 under the leadership of Marty Grafton, with the intention of producing a sequel entitled Beyond Julia's Daughters, 1975-2000. In 2003, Herstory became a special standing committee of the Women’s History Coalition of Miami-Dade County, which promotes the history and accomplishments of women in South Florida.
