The Pan American Collection consists of materials collected by the Pan Am Historical Foundation for a future aviation museum. This finding aid describes the photographs and paper materials housed in the HistoryMiami Museum archives. Artifacts and their inventories are kept by the objects department of the museum.

The archival materials include photographs, flight maps and records, newspaper clippings, certificates, technical reports, and corporate ephemera—and corporate and personal material collected by three Pan American pilots. The collection also contains newspaper and magazine clippings featuring Pan American; commemorative certificates; advertisements and promotional materials; scrapbooks documenting the first direct service between John F. Kennedy Airport and Berlin in 1964; menus for state dignitaries, corporate, and press flights; photographs of Juan Trippe and other officers, aircraft, and historic flights; and technical reports.

Ekstrom’s papers are a major component of the collection; they show a pilot’s lifestyle as well as the role of a pilot within the airline; they include newspaper clippings on the development of flying—and photographs, postcards, and ephemera from Latin America.

Keeler’s papers are a smaller parallel component; they include photographs of an early aircraft assembly and attempted launch over water, as well as photos of Latin American Native Americans.

Papers from pilot Dave Abrams include insurance plans, retirement plans, and union agreements.

Financial records of Pitcairn Aviation, Eastern Air Transport and Eastern Air Lines between 1926 and 1936 make up the bulk of the collection. Also included are board minutes, correspondence and personnel directories; civic activities scrapbooks, advertising artwork and personnel uniform sketches, newsletters, photographic prints and video and film recordings. These records represent only a portion of Eastern's holdings, as some were retained by the company or given to other institutions

Includes an unsigned typescript letter from Theodore Roosevelt, several photographs of turn of the century stores in Key West and Miami, material on the congregations of Rodeph Sholom in Key West and Beth David in Miami (first called B'Nai Zion), and photographs of Cuban leaders of the late 1800s, including Jose Marti.

The Shafer collection consists of approximately .5 cubic foot of manuscripts, research notes, newsletters, correspondence, newspaper and magazine clippings, pamphlets, and ephemera.

A substantial portion of the collection, approximately 1 cubic foot, is composed of over 1,000 photographic prints and negatives, primarily of antique bottles and archaeological artifacts and dig sites. In addition, Shafer and his family  are the subject of some of these photographs. The prints range in size from contact sheets to 11 x 14 inches and include both color and black-and-white images. Also among the items in the collection are some slides and a color transparency.

Photographs shot by Chris Hansen. The collection contains photographic prints, negatives, and slides, along with a folder of clippings and lists pertaining to some of the subjects. Images include celebrities and places in Miami/Miami Beach, the Goodyear Blimp, glamour photography, Dodge Island, and the Miami Serpentarium.

The bulk of the images are of models, beauty contestants, celebrities, actors, actresses and Miami Beach social events. Other images show sporting activities, boats and ships such as the SS Florida. Among those photographed were Jayne Mansfield, Red Skelton, Jimmy Durante, Bill Haast, and President John F. Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy. One album has newspaper clippings and another has slides of the events, including the Republican National Convention in 1972.

Buildings include Vizcaya, Gusman Center, Spanish Monastery and the Hialeah Water Treatment Plant. Also includes a steel arch from a never built industrial park at Tamiami Trail and SW 172nd Avenue.

A framed handwritten poem, "The Gift Outright," dedicated to the Newtons, is the centerpiece of this small and lovingly assembled collection celebrating the works and life of Robert Frost, and his connection with Florida over the many winters he spent in Key West. Includes several of his privately printed poems (some of which are inscribed or signed), signed copies of his collected poems, correspondence (chiefly from his friend Kathleen Morrison to Miss Jessie regarding Frost), photographs and guest books. Other materials include newspaper clippings, first day covers, programs, and other ephemera pertaining to Frost.
