Topics include the construction, costs and problems associated with the project and opinions by supporters and detractors of Henry Flagler, owner of the Florida East Coast Railway. Also includes references to the sinking of the steamer, St. Lucie, during the 1906 hurricane.

Griffin ("Uncle George"), and an autobiographical narrative by Lena Clarke, Mrs. Warner's sister.
