Collection contains photographic slides and negatives showing of Miami-Dade and Florida. Most images pertain to hurricanes, hurricane preparedness, and subsequent damage caused by the storms; including the 1926 hurricane, hurricanes Betsy (1965), Camille (1969), Alicia (1983), Hugo (1989) and Andrew (1992). Includes images of flooding during the 1947 hurricane season. Other weather occurrences such as waterspouts and tornadoes are included as are satellite images and hurricane projection charts.

Collection also contains slides that pertain to modes of transportation in Miami Dade County and other parts of Florida, primarily the street-railroad system. Images range from the horse cars of the 1890s to the inauguration of the tri-rail system in the 1980s.

The AmeriFirst Bank records consist of newspaper clippings; correspondence; pamphlets and ephemera; photographs; nine scrapbooks; two record books; two video-cassettes; and one reel of film. Material pertains to the structure and operation of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Miami, later known as AmeriFirst Bank

The scrapbooks, which document the history of the savings and loan and the construction of the AmeriFirst Building, contain correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, and ephemera. Included in the collection is a copy of a report made by the Architectural Consulting and Guiding Committee on the Inter-American Cultural and Trade Center [Interama]. This report contains proposals, specifications, building costs, and plans detailing the site. The subjects of the videocassettes are brief, thirty-second spots on AmeriFirst Bank filmed before 1979 and in 1987. The reel of film contains over five minutes of footage on the opening of the Little River branch of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association.

Mergen's topics include: corruption at the local government level, organzied crime, environmental concerns, The Everglades, business and labor disputes, and the problems threatening and hindering the growth and development of the county's infrastructure.

Annette and Rudi Rada photographs - 1946-1974

The collection contains the photographs by Annette and Rudi Rada from 1946 to 1974. Some of the 1940s photographs appear to be taken before they moved to Florida. The bulk of the collection, however, covers the 1952-1956 period in which he regularly photographed houses for both the Miami News and the Miami Herald. The collection contains both black and white, and color, negatives and prints, as well as color transparencies and slides. The collection specializes in architectural photographs, and commercial photography. There are, however, several trips, one to Cuba in 1951, and one to South America in 1969.

A selection of LGBTQ material include playbills and programs for local and national theaters, magazine articles, ephemera, a poster for a Gay Men's Chorus of Miami presentation and a wallpaper sample from the Candlelight Club.

Bulk of the collection concerns the Apthorp family, especially William Lee Apthorp. Much genealogical information; documents, including two short diaries, deeds, letters, primarily with 19th century dates; an 1877 map of Florida, and items related to William Lee Apthorp's Civil War service (source of some of the diaries). Also included are 24 items relating to the Osgood family, and smaller amounts for the Weeks and Morse families. Other items: William H. Gleason's 1868 Proclamation (against Governor Harrison Reed); and a 1975 publication: The People of lawmaking in Florida, 1845/1975.

Other items include: bound photocopies of yearbooks from Ada Merritt Jr. High, Shenandoah Jr. High and West Miami Jr. High School, an a photograph of Robert F. Kennedy at an event at a hotel  on Miami Beach.
