The Cuban exodus, 1980 : photo essay by Miami Herald staff. Photographs document the mass emigration of Cubans during the Mariel boatlift. Images of the refugees were shot in Cuba, on arrival in Florida,and at the tent cities that were erected to temporarily house them. A few of the images were shot at Fort Chaffe in Arkansas.

The Cuban exodus images were shot by Miami Herald staff photographers and entered as a photo essay in the Pulitzer Prize competition. The images were not captioned, nor the individual photographers credited.
