Reed, George F., 1928-2009Correspondence, clippings, brochures, maps, real estate records and related papers trace the activities of George Merrick, founder of the city of Coral Gables. Most of the collection pertains to the 1930s and later years, including a substantial amount on the Dade County Planning Board.
Warranty deeds dated 1899 and 1903 for Solomon Merrick record the purchase of the original Merrick property in what would become Coral Gables and for three lots in downtown Miami.

Merrick, George Edgar, 1886-1942Letters and diaries written by the Gilpins while on winter trips to the east and west coasts of Florida. John R. Gilpin (JRG) wrote most of the letters, and his wife Emma (EEG) wrote most of the diaries. Their son Vincent (VG) wrote a few letters and diaries.

Highlights include: minutes of the Board of Directors, 1919-1967, in ten bound volumes; committee meetings, 1939-1954, in four bound volumes; newsletters primarily from the 1960s; and the Chamber's publication, Miamian, from 1958 to 1971.
Twelve scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings selected by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. These clippings document private and public sector growth and development in the city, and issues that affected the community during that period. The Chamber's role as a catalyst for civic improvement is also documented. Topics include: the controversy surrounding the legalization of casino gambling, tourism, the proposed north Dade jetport, Interama, the Greater Miami Foreign Free Trade Zone, the role of Afro-Americans and Cuban Americans, race relations and the Miami riot of 1980 following the acquittal of the police officers charged with the murder of Arthur McDuffie.

The collection contains approximately 100 blueprints, augmented by architectural specifications. Blueprints include those from Keihnel & Elliott’s original design for the Gilbert residence (1926), alterations made by Robert Law Reed & Associates (1948) and an addition made by Manfred Ungaro (1962).
The files contain notes, invoices, receipts and ephemera concerning appliances and building work. Box 1 contains records belonging to Mrs. Gilbert and Box 2 holds the papers of Dr. and Mrs. Hanna.
